Safety in Your Home

I have meant to write this post for some time given an incident that happened to an old neighbor a couple of years ago in a Chandler home in Southeast Chandler.  Here’s what happened.

While they were gone from the house during a weekday, someone turned off the power to the home at the breaker box and broke into the home.  This disabled the security system they had installed.  They completely ransacked the home when there.  This happened in the middle of the day.  Suffice to say, the owners felt completely violated by the robbery.  So much so that the owner told me that she came very close to calling me to list the home as she didn’t feel comfortable in it any longer.

Luckily, they stuck it out and stayed.  After all, as hard as this is to deal with, they have a wonderful home in a wonderful neighborhood and it just isn’t worth moving for a rare occurrence.

The tip here to protect yourself is very simple and very inexpensive:

Put a padlock on your electrical breaker box as well as your gate.  I recommend a combination lock rather than a key lock so that you always can open the lock withouth having to look for the key.  This way, a would-be robber realizes that to break in, there is more effort and risk involved to doing so.  They simply cannot access either without cutting the lock.

As far as I know, the culprits were never found.  It took quite some time for the owners to recover from the sense that their whole world was violated.  They are doing fine now but the experience was traumatic.  Luckily for them, no one was home at the time.

Luckily for you, you can take these simple steps to help protect yourself and your home and belongings as well.
