Many people live in a community currently governed by a Homeowner’s Association or HOA. Now, we all know that a HOA watches the community and gives citations and notices when someone is in violation. And we all know that they are tasked with keeping everything in the community looking in order. But the company that often does this is only hired by the individuals who live in the community who make up the Homeowner’s Board. And it is this Board that meets periodically to settle pending matters in the community.

Having said that, the Board has a much greater opportunity and responsibility to make a community shine. A Homeowners Board with vision can make substantive qualitative changes to a neighborhood that really add charm and build pride among its residents. As such, I thought I would highlight an example below.
This photo was taken from a Chandler neighborhood. The plantern is a simple touch to the neighborhood but a very important one. It’s small things like this that begin to transform a neighborhood that looks like all the others around it to one that shines with an energy and comfort all its own. These changes, in my opinion, raise the value of homes in the neighborhood as buyers can sense the difference and are willing to pay more to get it.
Over time, I will be calling out other aspects of when the HOA Board can and does take a strategic and qualitative approach to improving the sense of quality of life in the neighborhood.
