Ahwatukee Home Curb Appeal

From time to time, I like to call out a home I see that really catches my eye.  This is one such example of a home in Ahwatukee.

As you can see, the yard and landscaping is lush and well designed.  It’s also very green!  Why?  Because the homeowners opted to use a synthetic grass instead of real grass.

Artificial Lawns – Green All Year ‘Round

The benefits to the synthetic are that the artificial grass looks very close to the real thing.  However, it doesn’t get the yellowing or spots that normal grass often gets here with the changing temperatures and seasons.  It stays very green all year round.  And of course, it doesn’t require water or hassling with irrigation systems.

And it generally doesn’t fade.  I have seen artificial lawns that were already several years old and they still looked as good as the day they were installed.

The only caveat with artificial lawns is making sure that there is no risk associated with the leeching of lead.  There have been reports of this problem with some of the synthetic lawns so it is important to check with vendors as to the safety and lead content of their products.  Most likely, this has been addressed very effectively and the company should be more than ready to explain this.

The Effect of Greenery and Grass in Your Front Yard

An additional benefit of plants, trees, and grass is that it works to soften the hard, linear architectural elements of a home.  Desertscape tends to be hardscape unless the landscaper and homeowner includes enough vegetation to overcome the barren and rocky feel of many desertscape yards.  That’s why a green lawn is a sure-fire way to improve the appeal of a home’s exterior.

Rockwork Makes All the Difference

As you can see, the homeowners here added extensive rock accents and touches across the home and even the wall.

Adding rock acccents on your home also helps to soften the architectural hard lines of a home and acts as a natural transition from ground and vegetation to the home.  If you want to spruce up the exterior of your home, give serious consideration as to how rockwork on the exterior may improve the look of your home.

Stucco Your Walls

Notice how the walls have been stuccoed with rock accents?  This is another great way to add to the curb appeal of your home or the appeal of your backyard for that matter.

Stuccoing isn’t as expensive as one might think and with some creativity, the wall can provide a subtle, refined feeling to a yard.  As well, stucco on a wall can close the gaps and holes in a wall to keep scorpions from easily reaching your yard.  It’s another way to reduce the population of these little critters in your yard.

Curb Appeal – It’s Worth It

I believe that creating curb appeal simply adds value to your home.  And often it doesn’t take much to do.  This Ahwatukee home’s curb appeal is worth mention.  It’s a great example of a few elements being brought together for a well-finished and groomed look that will stay that way for years to come.
